A LORRY driver was ordered to stay in his cab for his own safety after his vehicle became entangled with a high voltage electrical cable.

Firefighters from Chard, Axminster, Charmouth and Bridport were sent to the incident in Axminster shortly after 4pm today (Thursday).

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said the incident was reported as "a live high voltage electrical cable entanglement involving a lorry".

They added: "Western Power Distribution attended and police assisted with a road closure for safety.

"The driver of the lorry remained inside the vehicle for his safety until the power was isolated.

"Crews are continuing to assist police with an area cordon and road closures."
