THREE people in Somerset have died after contracting Covid-19, according to the latest daily figures supplied by the Government.

Of those, two were in the South Somerset district, the other in Sedgemoor.

The total number of people in the county council area who have died within 28 days of a positive test for the virus now stands at 179.

The districts breakdown of deaths since the start of the pandemic is Mendip 26; Sedgemoor 64; Somerset West and Taunton 43; and South Somerset 46.

The rate is relatively low compared to other areas of the country and the county yesterday saw a dip in the Covid-19 infection rate in all four districts.
