CHILDREN at a school in Ilminster are set to explore nature with their new forest school leaders and transformed outdoor site.
Two teachers at Ashill pre-school and primary school – Kelly Napper and Pamela Mount - have signed up to become fully qualified forest school leaders by July 2021.
A fire pit, two curriculum cabins, a mud kitchen, den building corner, greenhouse and gardening section have set up by Ms Napper as well as parents, staff and volunteers.
Marc Burgess, a local tradesman, helped to renovate and clear a portion of the school garden site to create a forest school area for the students.
A spokesperson for the Ilminster-based school said: “The school and pupils would like to thank Marc and all the helpers for their time and commitment in making this possible for the school.
“Ms Napper’s vision is to provide forest school to the whole school each week.
“She also has plans for an after-school club and future holiday workshops and would like to see the school welcome visitors to the site and invite parents to come in and take part in workshops.
“This will provide a fabulous experience for the pupils and parents and offer something for the local community.
“Ms Napper also hopes this could, in turn, help provide funds for future development and resources.”
