THE owner of a Mini given to her as a present in 1981 - when she was just 17 years old - is to be sold.

After almost 40 years, the classic runaround is going under the hammer at the Charterhouse auction of classic and vintage cars on November 11.

“The owner decided that after nearly 40 years of ownership it is time to let someone else enjoy the car,” said Charterhouse auctioneer, Richard Bromell.

“Classic Mini’s remain hugely popular with enthusiasts.

"Over the years we have had some great success selling Mini’s like the garage stored 1965 Mini Cooper S sold in our last online classic car auction for £28,600.”

Finished in the attractive colour of Teal blue with an Old English white roof the 1968 car has remained in a largely original condition.

In the later part of the 1980s, the owner worked abroad for a few years. During this time, the car remained with her father, although he told her had sold it.

When she moved back to the England, she was delighted to see her father had kept her beloved Mini safe for her return.

Needless to say she forgave him for saying he had sold it.

Now entered into the Charterhouse online auction of classic cars next month, this charming little Mini is estimated to sell for between £5,000 and £6,000.

"Whether it will be bought by a father for his 17 year old daughter only time will tell," Mr Bromell added.

Charterhouse are now accepting further entries for the November 11 auction, as well as their busy autumn programme of sales with silver, jewellery & watches on Thursday, November 5, Asian Art antiques & interiors on Friday, November 6, coins, medals & stamps on December 3 and clocks and collector’s items on December 4.
