A WINE shop has bought a riverside restaurant with the hope of turning it into a cocktail bar.

The building that housed Taunton’s Albatross restaurant was for sale earlier this year and has now been purchased by The Little Wine Shop & Social in Foundry Road.

Phillipe Messy, 48, owner of the wine shop and now the Albatross building, said: “There won’t be many changes to start with, but in March/April next year we will create a brand new restaurant and cocktail bar – with quality spirits.

“It has always been the plan for us to expand and buying the Albatross building was a good opportunity for us.”

The existing Social Wine Bar will move to the riverside building on October 8 and then in the spring, the bar will move back to The Little Wine Shop and a new restaurant and bar will open.

“For the time being we will move the Social Wine Bar there, as it gives us more space and even safer surroundings for you during the Covid-19 crisis,” added Mr Messy.

“There is also a terrace for those that feel more secure outside. We will be implementing the same security procedures as we have in place at Foundry Road

“The intention is to move and trade from Thursday, October 8.

“In addition to our normal offering we will serve coffees, teas and various hot drinks from 9.30am Tuesday to Saturday. This will include pains au chocolat, croissants and various pastries.”
