A BUSINESS began in the heart of lockdown and has now expanded - with a shop in Chard town centre.

Tom’s Bike Shed - a bicycle repair and servicing business set up in April 2020 amid the coronavirus crisis – now has a shop at 22 Holyrood Street, Chard.

Owner, Tom Ranson, said: “Upon setting out on this adventure I never thought that my small business would become such an overnight success.

“I had only expected to use my mechanical abilities to dabble on my own with a handful of bicycles each week, and now as of the end of summer we are providing the full bicycle shop experience on the high street with an ever expanding list of happy customers.

“Sadly, we have seen many business including bicycle shops leave the high street over the past few years.

“We believe our relocation and expansion into the town centre to be a positive change for Chard in these times of uncertainty.”

Tom, and his assistant manager Ryan Jones, offer collection, delivery and a mobile repairs service for punctures or other small issues.

The business sells used and warrantied bicycles, as well as new ones to order.

“Since opening the new shop we have received so much positive feedback and have really felt welcomed by the people of Chard,” Tom added.

“We really want to make a positive contribution to the community and encourage greener methods of transport.”

Tom has also launched a cycling club called Tom’s Chain Gang for riders of all ages. He hosts group rides with tea and cake, mountain biking trips and more.

Tom’s Bike Shed opened on Saturday (September 5) and will be open Monday and Wednesday through to Saturday. To get in touch call 07948 326593.
