A MAN was taken to hospital after he was rescued from his car near South Petherton. 

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called at 5pm to reports of a man trapped in a vehicle on the A303 westbound between Cartgate and South Petherton. 

One fire engine from Martock and one from Yeovil along with a rescue tender, and one fire engine from Ilminster went to the scene. 

Police and ambulance crews also attended the incident.

"Crews got to work administering casualty care and assessing the best way to extricate the casualty in liaison with paramedics," a Devon and Somerset Fire and Recue Service spokesperson said. 

"Crews rescued the person from the vehicle who was then taken into the care of ambulance, and conveyed to hospital.

"Duty of care of the scene was left with the police."
