Staff at a Chard-based transport company have been rewarded with a silver medal as a ‘thank you’ for all their hard work throughout lockdown.

C&D South West Ltd, based in the Millfield Industrial Estate, has presented staff with the silver medals as a memento of their achievements through what has been an incredibly difficult time for everyone, especially those in the transport and logistics industry.

The medals have been specially commissioned from Sterling Mint to recognise the contribution of essential and key workers throughout the UK, including doctors, nurses, carers and frontline workers with all of the proceeds being donated to the NHS Charities Together Covid-19 Appeal.

Lorna Hammond, managing director of the company, said: “The whole country had had its challenges over recent months and none more so than those charged with keeping the country moving during the lockdown period.

“The transport industry forms the backbone of the country and whilst the wonderful NHS, amongst other key workers kept our population safe, we like to think that we played our part in keeping those that relied on us fed and watered throughout.”

C&D Transport was founded in 1987 and has been providing distribution to clients for over 30 years.

Lorna added: “We’re particularly proud of the way that our team stepped up to the challenges imposed on us by Covid-19.

“We adopted new ways of working, strengthened our safety measures and reacted to the needs of our customers as swiftly as possible, ensuring that goods were delivered safely and on time. I couldn’t be more proud of everyone who’s worked so hard.

Lorna Hammond, managing director, is the third-generation leader of C&D and has followed in her father’s and late Grandfather’s footsteps.

The company provides transport and logistics services locally, nationally and internationally.

“We wanted to recognise the individual contributions that all the team have made over the past few months – they truly deserve a medal,” said Lorna.

“It’s great to know the profits derived from our purchase will do directly to the NHS Together Covid-19 Appeal too.

“I’m sure that in years to come, the medals will serve as a reminder of all of these things and will hopefully pass down through time to show how much we all endured to keep the country moving.”
