Penrith Mountain Rescue Team was called out to assist with a casualty near Kirkby Stephen who might have been in need of some of the rescuers' specialist medical equipment.
The team was called out on Saturday evening, along with Kendal Mountain Rescue Team, to assist colleagues in the Kirkby Stephen Mountain Rescue Team after they were scrambled to help a man with a suspected heart attack on High Pike.
The Penrith team was called at 11.40pm after a request to have its Autopulse equipment at the scene. This can deliver chest compressions if a casualty goes into cardiac arrest, which helps keep the heart going.
Once the 55-year-old’s condition was checked, a Coastguard helicopter was called from Humberside.
The helicopter then ferried the casualty to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough.
Saturday was a busy day for Kirkby Stephen Mountain Rescue Team, as prior to this incident they were called out to help with the evacuation of a woman who had fallen off a quad bike near Adamthwaite, Ravenstonedale.
A Coastguard helicopter was also scrambled for this incident, from Caernarfon in Wales.
The casualty was then taken to Preston Hospital.
