POLICE have launched an investigation after a man was stabbed on the M5 in Somerset on Friday night (July 10).

At around 10.10pm, police officers were called by the ambulance service to attend the southbound slip road of the M5 at Junction 21 for Weston-super-Mare after a 26-year-old man suffered stab injuries.

He was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "The victim was a passenger in a car which had just exited the M5 at this junction and was at a set of traffic lights.

"A dispute then ensued with the driver of another car, following which the victim was stabbed."

A 42-year-old man from Birmingham has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent and is now in custody for questioning.
