A CAR driver is in hospital with "life threatening injuries" following a horror crash.

The 31-year-old from Yeovil was at the wheel of a purple Mini Cooper that collided with a silver Land Rover Discovery.

The other driver and the passengers from both vehicles were also taken to hospital following the incident on the B3092 New Road near Gillingham, Dorset, at 7.13pm yesterday (Sunday).

Dorset Police say the Mini driver was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital "with life threatening injuries".

The other people involved in the crash, which led to a road closure, were taken to hospital in Yeovil "as a precaution".

Sgt Sarah Jones, of Dorset Police traffic unit, said: “We are carrying out a thorough investigation to establish the full circumstances of this collision.

“I am appealing to any witnesses who have not already spoken to us or anyone who may have captured the incident on dashcam to please contact us.

“Finally, I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while the road closure is in place.”
