A SEARCH of a Devon garage revealed an amazing discovery for car fans - one of the last Sunbeam-Talbots ever produced.

The 1954-registered Sunbeam-Talbot 90 Mk IIA was uncovered by Charterhouse Auctioneers and entered into their online classic and vintage car auction, which will take place on Wednesday, July 29.

“It is a classic British car from the 1950’s with a beautiful drop head coupe body perfect for driving around the countryside on a sunny day,” said Richard Bromell from Charterhouse.

“Today, Sunbeam-Talbots rarely come onto the market, especially in drop head coupe form, and I am sure that car with its attractive lines and metallic blue paintwork will appeal to many classic motoring enthusiasts.”

This Sunbeam-Talbot 90 Mk IIA rolled off the production line and was registered JRX 293 on April 10 1954 to a garage in Berkshire.

The first owner was the proprietor of The Budock Vean Hotel in Falmouth, where it was kept until 1963.

Chard & Ilminster News:

The 90 Mk IIA was the last Sunbeam-Talbot to carry the name as they dropped the name Talbot in 1954, with the Sunbeam Mk III.

The Mk IIA is the rarest of all Sunbeam-Talbots produced.

Fitted with a higher compression engine raising the output to 77 bhp and with enlarged brakes over the Mk II the styling largely remained the same but it lost the rear spats.

JRX 293 passed through a small number of owners from 1963 until 1988 when purchased by the Charterhouse client in living in Devon.

He simply drove the car into his garage where it languished for the next 32 years.

Having spent nearly half of its 66 years tucked away it is now looking for a new home and hopefully someone with the time, skills and resources necessary to put the car back on the road again.

It will have an estimate of between £4,500 and £6,500 when it goes under the Charterhouse hammer on July 29. For more details call 01935 812277.
