CELEBRATIONS were in full swing at a Somerset care centre as one resident marked a landmark birthday.

Staff and fellow residents at the West Abbey Care Centre, in Yeovil, joined in the fun as Patricia Edwards marked her 100th birthday in style.

She was joined by staff and other residents as she received a telegram from the Queen in recognition of her landmark birthday, while the party was a tasty affair with a birthday cake made by the home’s chef, Andrew Pippard.

Patsy was born in Grimsby and spent many years working as a secretary before coming to West Abbey Care centre, where she is enjoying a new chapter of her life and bringing smiles to all she meets.

And Helen Colaço, general manager at West Abbey, said Patsy brings joy to all those around her and staff were more than happy to do all they could to try and make sure it was an unforgettable day.

“We’re delighted to be celebrating a truly remarkable woman as she reaches this amazing milestone," she said.

"Patsy is such a popular resident who always has an interesting tale to tell, and we look forward to hearing many more as she breaks into her next century.”
