MEMBERS of the Minehead Coastguard team had a busy Saturday handling three incidents.

They were tasked with attending a medical emergency, searching for a high risk missing person and standing by following reports of a kayaker in distress.

A spokesman said: "Whilst out on patrol in the morning, our vehicle was flagged down to assist with a medical emergency outside Stones pub.

"Whilst dealing with this a passing community first responder offered to help out with the casualty (many thanks).

"Devon Air Ambulance Trust was tasked to the incident and landed nearby along with an ambulance from South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust.

"The casualty was then taken to hospital via ambulance."

The second incident was a joint operation involving coastguards, lifeboat volunteers and police.

The spokesman said: "As we were changing officers at the station, we were called up to assist with a high risk missing persons along with HM Coastguard Watchet and Minehead RNLI Lifeboat Station by Avon and Somerset Police.

"Once on scene with the police, the casualty was found close by and left in the care of the police."

Referring to the third incident, he added: "We received information from a 999 call of a possible kayaker in distress seen about two miles north of Minehead lifeboat station.

"Once we had eyes on the casualty (thanks to the first informant for letting us use his garden for a better vantage point) we requested RNLI Lifeboat Station Minehead once again.

"The kayaker was happy to make his own way back to shore so once he was closer to land Minehead Lifeboat stood down and recovered."
