A NEW coronavirus case was confirmed in Somerset in the latest figures issued by Public Health England.

A person was diagnosed with the disease in the Sedgemoor district in the 24 hours to 5pm on Saturday.

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the council district areas in the county now stand at 213 in Somerset West and Taunton; 154 in Sedgemoor; 146 in South Somerset; and 51 in Mendip.

The death toll for the county authority area remains at 59 after no new deaths were reported over the same period.

Of those who passed away, 37 people in the care of Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, which was established through the merger of Somerset Foundation Trust and Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, based at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton; 19 in hospital in Yeovil; and three at Weston General Hospital.
