THERE are two seats available on Ilminster Town Council waiting for a member of the community who feels they can make a difference.

The councillor vacancies will be filled by co-option - where the current crop of 13 memebrs pick who they think is best for the job.

The starting point is to fill in an application form which can be downloaded from the Ilminster Town Council website, or a hard copy can be requested by telephoning the Town Council Offices on 01460 52149.

Completed application forms must be returned by 12 noon on April 6, 2020.

The Town Council is looking for two people who are enthusiastic about the town and community of Ilminster and would like to help make it a great place to live and work.

The Mayor, Councillor Philip Burton, said: “We are looking for someone who is passionate about the town – that knowledge of the town and its people are the most important qualities rather than any academic qualifications.

"The Town Council strives to make a positive difference to the quality of life for people who live or work in Ilminster and those who come to visit.

"We want a Town Council that understands the community it serves and comprises people across a broad age spectrum who have a wide range of experience, skills and knowledge that will help move the town forwards.”

When at full strength, Ilminster Town Council has 15 Councillors and decisions are made through a system of Committees.

Meetings are usually on a Tuesday evening. The Town Council is responsible for the many of the open spaces in Ilminster including the Wharf Lane Recreation Ground, Britten’s Field and Herne Hill, and this is in addition to managing the cemetery and the weekly market.
