THE name has changed, the signs are new, but it is all staying in the family at one Ilminster hairdressers.

For around 10 years the salon was known as Adorn, but shoppers in Ditton Street may have noticed the fresh new look for The Hair Shop.

And while the owners have changed as well, it is a pair of familiar faces for the business’ regular customers.

The salon was first launched in Ilminster town centre around three decades ago as Top Knots, and run by Helen Wood and Margaret Riste.

After 21 years working together, Margaret retired from running the business.

Helen oversaw the company’s first change of name, to Adorn, and kept the hairdressers going for another 10 years.

This year has seen the latest big change for the business, as Helen also decided to step away.

Vanessa Sims and Lydia Grant have now taken over, with 40 years combined experience.

“I previously worked in the salon for nine years, before having a four year break, and have now returned to take over with Vanessa,” said Lydia.

“Vanessa is Margaret’s daughter and I am Helen’s niece, so it’s a family orientated business.”

The hairdressers’ new dynamic duo have also revealed plans to revamp the business over time.

Discussing the change of name from Adorn, Lydia added: “We decided on The Hair Shop as the name as we wanted to keep it simple and easy to remember.

“We want to welcome old and new customers to a friendly traditional salon.

“We would also like to thank our existing customers for their all support, and we look forward to welcoming new ones.”
