MORE than 50 people braved a cold windy January morning to fill sacks of rubbish and help clean up their town.

Organisers of the Chard Litter Pick dubbed it ‘by far the best attendance’ seen by the event which launched last year and had their first 2020 meeting on January 11.

“There was a huge diversity of different people from all walks of life,” said Green town councillor Serena Wootton.

“Some hardy litter pickers who have come time and time again, massive thanks to you and your dedication.

“To the older population that turned up, a retired man in particular came along on his own, said he normally does gardening on a Saturday morning but wanted to try something different.”

The group managed to fill more than 30 sacks of rubbish from all over the town centre.

Cllr Wootton added: “This is by far the best attendance ever seen by the group and because of this so many general public walking around Chard on Saturday morning came over to find out more and to say a big thank you.”

The town’s next big litter pick is set to take place on March 21, starting at Chard Library.
