A MAN was freed from wreckage by firefighters after a car crash last night.

Two fire crews from Yeovil were called to Main Street, Mudford, at just after 9.15pm to reports of a crash in which a person was trapped in a vehicle.

"On arrival, the incident commander confirmed that there was a one vehicle road traffic collision involving one vehicle, and one male casualty was still within a private car," said a Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson.

"Crews awaited the arrival of ambulance to assess the casualty before being able to formulate a plan to extricate him, and ensured that the vehicle and scene were safe and stabilised.

"Following assessment by the ambulance service, crews set up hydraulic cutting equipment to enable them to cut the roof off the car, to allow the male to be safely removed."

The injured man was treated by ambulance crews and the scene left in the control of police, the spokesperson added.
