A TEAM of hardworking volunteers needs your donations if it is to continue providing supplies for Chard in-need residents.

The Lord’s Larder, which is the town’s foodbank organisation, continued meeting demand through 2019 thanks to the generosity of the town’s residents.

Collection drives from Tesco and Sainsbury gave the Lord’s Larder a festive boost, while demand was down through most of the year.

Throughout 2019, the foodbank teamed up with schools to help feed those in need.

Pupils from Holyrood started last winter with a big donation made through the town’s Tesco store.

As 2019 went on, volunteers from the Lord’s Larder headed out to talk with pupils about their work.

Maurice Banfield, Lord’s Larder team member, said: “School pupils have been keen to help and we were able to trial a visit to some our primary schools to explain what we are and what we do, which we enjoyed doing.

“Churches and organisations in the district have also taken us to heart.

“Tesco and Sainsbury’s have recently run promotions for foodbanks and we have been pleased to take part, and customers have supported this well.

“We have benefited from donations of both food and money from local businesses and are grateful for their staff participation.”

While the foodbank continues to receive food donations from across Chard, the volunteer team said it needs more financial contributions to keep up with demand.

Mr Banfield added: “Contributions are about equal with requirements, however we still have to make purchases each month to cover high necessity items such as milk, and to buy in to ensure we always have the right balance of foodstuffs, so financial donations are still needed and welcomed.”

Expenditure for 2019 was set to reach around £2,000.

“As we are entirely run by volunteers, most of the income goes on food stocks with a little to pay for our storage facility so with the help of the Chard and district folks generosity we will continue to serve the need in 2020,” said Mr Banfield.
