AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after two horses suffered cuts to their faces at a stables in South Petherton.

The horses, one female and one male, suffered cuts to their faces caused by a sharp object, possibly a knife, sometime between 10pm on December 4 and 8.45am on December 5 in the Pitway Hill area of South Petherton.

Both horses needed emergency treatment, including stitches and staples, and they are on continuing medication.

PCSO Nikolaus Burge, from the neighbourhood team, said: “This is a very disturbing attack on two horses for no apparent motive.

“While offences like this are very rare, we’d encourage horse owners in the area to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police.
