IT'S the most wonderful time of the year, and Taunton is getting ready to embrace the cold.
A Christmas ice rink is set to open in town tomorrow (December 9).
Somerset West and Taunton Council is bringing the real ice rink to Castle Green until January 5.
The rink, operated by iSK8, will be open everyday except Christmas Day.
Cllr Marcus Kravis, executive member for economic development, said: “We are excited to give people the chance to experience the magic of skating on real ice in Taunton town centre. It’s a great way to celebrate Christmas.
"The ice rink will provide a family-friendly festive experience as part of the programme of events this year.
"We hope it will prove to be a big attraction for people all over the district, generating an increase in the number of people visiting the town over the Christmas period and giving a boost to local traders.”
The rink's opening hours will vary each day, and the council advises booking online to avoid disappointment.
The ice rink will be in a marquee with Christmas lights and music, so unpredictable weather won't stop people from skating.
Skating sessions last for 45 minutes with a further 15 minutes designated for shoe change.
Adults are £10, and children aged 15 or under are £8, and there is also a service charge for booking online.
