THE General Election in Taunton Deane will be a four-horse race.

Three of the main parties - Conservative, Labour and LibDem - had put forward candidates along with one Independent ahead of yesterday's (Thursday) deadline for nominations.

Contesting the seat will be Gideon Amos (LibDem); Liam Canham (Labour); John Hunt (Independent); and Rebecca Pow (Conservative).

The Brexit Party candidate Penny Rowson and The Green Party's Clive Martin both pulled out as part of an agreement to attempt to boost the vote for the Tories and the LibDems respectively.

Voting takes place on Thursday, December 12, between 7am and 10pm.

The result of the 2017 poll saw Rebecca Pow (Conservative) win with 33,333 votes, followed by Gideon Amos (LibDem) with 17,446, Martin Jevon (Labour) 9,689, Alan Dimmick (UKIP) 1,434 and Clive Martin (Green) 1,151.
