PLANS for a new petrol station at a main West Somerset roundabout are in the very early stages.

A public consultation event has been arranged for the local community to voice their views about the idea.

Forelle Estates is exploring the option of putting a petrol filling station at Washford Cross, located opposite the Tropiquaria Wildlife Park.

No planning application has been submitted yet, as the company are hoping to gage public opinion first.

A spokesperson for Forelle Estates said: “The proposals are currently at a very early stage and Forelle Estates wants to discuss the plans with the local community before going any further.

“Your views will help inform our decision as to whether we bring a planning application forward.

The public drop-in session is set to take place on Wednesday, December 4, from 4pm until 7pm, at the Brendon Room at Williton Pavilion.

Currently, there are already two other filling stations along the A39 either side of the wildlife park.

One is in Bilbrook, 2.1 miles away, while the other is in Williton, 1.3 miles away.

The roundabout at Washford Cross was completed in December 2015.

It replaced a crossroads linking the A39 and the B3190 in a bid to make the junction safer.

The roundabout was built in conjunction with EDF, which intended to build a new park and ride facility for workers at Hinkley Point C.
