AN INVESTIGATION has been launched by police after two people were injured in a stabbing outside a Burnham-on-Sea pub.

Police were called to Pier Street at around 12.45am on Friday, October 11 following reports of a disorder outside The Old Pier Tavern pub.

A man in his 30’s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of affray and possession of a bladed article before being taken to hospital for treatment for a wound on his back.

He was later released under investigation.

A second man in his 20’s, who is also believed to have been involved in the incident, also presented at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton a short time after the incident with wounds which required treatment.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said they would urge anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

The spokesperson said: “We were called at around 12.45am on Friday, October 11 to Pier Street, Burnham-on-Sea following reports of a disorder.

“A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of affray and possession of a bladed article before being taken to hospital for treatment for a wound to his back.

“He has since been released under investigation.

“A second man aged in his 20s presented at Musgrove Park Hospital a short time later.

“He also had wounds which required treatment and is believed to have been involved in the incident.

“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone who witnessed the incident who has not yet spoken to us is asked to phone 101 and provide the call handler with the reference 5219235327.

The Weekly News contacted The Old Pier Tavern for comment but they declined.
