A SOMERSET band raised £700 for a cancer charity by entertaining crowds at a charity gig.

The Ginger Hitlas performed a variety of rock songs for crowds at the Ritz Social Club in Burnham-on-Sea in August to raise funds for the charity.

Paul Hale, manager of the Ritz Social Club, provided the venue for free and Malcolm Stratford acted as compere for the evening.

The event raised £700 for Macmillan Cancer Research which could fund a MacMillan Nurse for 25 hours.

Donna Bunton from McMillan Cancer Research wrote a letter to thank the group for their donation.

The letter said: "We are delighted to receive your fantastic donation of £700 raised at a recent charity night.

"Please pass on our gratitude to the band for performing for free and to your PA for the evening, Malcolm Stratford, and also to Paul Hale at the Ritz Social Club for providing the venue free of charge.

"These generous contributions really make a difference and we are so grateful for the support of everyone involved who helped make the night such a success."
