AN Ilminster seven-year-old was a part of history last weekend when he walked out on to the hallowed turf at Wembley Stadium for the 2019 FA Community Shield.

Louis Williamson enjoyed an experience he will never forget as he set out next to Liverpool’s star goalkeeper Allison Becker in front of a crowd of 77,000 people.

Louis was one of the lucky few picked as a McDonald’s Player Escort for Sunday’s special occasion after winning a competition on the McDonald’s website.

The Ilminster boy said: “Walking out at Wembley was amazing. It was so loud, and it was really exciting seeing all the fans cheering for us.

“I can’t wait to tell all my friends at school about this.”

The closely fought game between Liverpool and Man City finished with the scores tied at 1-1, and penalties were required to split the teams.

Unfortunately, Louis’ new friend Allison was unable to take home the silverware as Man City won 5-4.

Sir Geoff Hurst, McDonald’s ambassador, said: “I know what it’s like to walk out in front of a big crowd at Wembley and it’s a feeling you can’t re-create.

“The reaction from the crowd makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up and it’s something you never forget. I’m sure Louis had an incredible experience and it’s great to know that football can have such a positive impact.”

As part of a new FA deal, McDonald’s has committed to provide over 5 million hours of fun football to 5-11 year olds. For more, visit www.mcdonalds.co.uk/funfootball.
