A NEW dirt track has been opened in Wellington thanks to the hard working volunteers.

The track, behind Wellington Sports Centre, has been refurbished after it had fallen into disrepair.

Local councillors Andrew Govier worked with volunteers to bring the project to fruition.

He said: "I was really impressed with the hard work that the volunteers put in. They are obviously passionate about the project and they have transformed the area. There is still some work needed but it should be ready for the school holidays."

Tom Richards from Eagle Plant loaned the equipment to the project, and Mike Cakebread, his brother Pete, Lloyd Bath, Danny Hutchins and Mike Holcome finished the work.

Cllr Govier added: "I was very grateful to Tom Richards from Eagle Plant in Taunton who loaned the plant to the project free of charge. Without this equipment the project wouldn’t have been possible and it is great that a local company was able to lend their support.

"I was also grateful to Darren Hill and Jonathan Stevens from Somerset West and Taunton Council for their positive support."
