PLANS have been revealed for four homes in the grounds of a town pub.

An application has been submitted for two two-bedroom and two three-bedroom houses at the White Hart Hotel, in The Square, Wiveliscombe.

The proposals would see staff accommodation, a function room and owner's accommodation plus an outside burger bar converted to form the two smaller properties.

And a former micro-brewery building would be demolished to make way for the two larger dwellings.

If approved by Somerset West and Taunton Council, the car park would be relocated to a beer garden.

A report sent to planners on behalf of licensee Simon Tanner says the development would not cause harm to the conservation area or loss of community facilities.

It adds that the former micro brewery building "has no historical merit" and is "unattractive".

The report says: "The building detracts from the quality of the conservation area in which it sits.

"It is considered that the use of the site for residential use would have a better relationship with the surrounding residential uses, rather than the business/commercial use."

Referring to the beer garden, it adds: "The applicant ha seen the use of the beer garden for family enjoyment decline over a number of years a patrons do not see the appeal to be detached from the environment of the bar and restaurant."
