FOOTBALLERS paid tribute to Bradley Cullen with a memorial match played at Ilminster Town Football Club’s Archie Gooch Pavilion on Sunday.
Cullen, a student at Wadham School in Crewkerne and formerly a pupil at Swanmead School in Ilminster, died in 2013 having lived with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
The Bradley Cullen Memorial Cup was first contested in 2015, with the 15-year-old’s friends and family coming together to release balloons and play a match in tribute to him.
The inaugural event raised £1,200 for Action Duchenne, and Sunday brought hundreds of people together for more fundraising.
There were plenty of current and former players from around the Ilminster area involved, with Darren Manley – who managed Combe St Nicholas in the Somerset County League last season – among them.
Manley estimated that about 200 people came to the match and cream tea, and added that they had raised £500 at the Pavilion.
That total could well rise, with donation buckets at the cricket club to be added.
