CHARD Town chairman Lyndsey Gage said that the club would decide whether to appeal its relegation from the Toolstation Western League at tomorrow's AGM.

The club has been demoted from the Western League – despite finishing seventh out of 20 teams in last season's First Division – due to the sloped pitch at Zembard Lane.

The FA's 'National League System Club Allocations – Steps 5/6, season 2019-20' document detailed Chard's relegation to 'Step 7 or below', with the Somerset County League expected to be the club's destination, "due to failure to achieve required ground grading".

Speaking to the Chard & Ilminster News, Gage said that a decision on whether to make an appeal would be made on Tuesday night, at the club's AGM.

He added that a club statement would follow, but did say: "I'm just so disappointed, as we felt we were so far down the line to keep Western League football.

"We were so close to everything and they've moved the goalposts; I don't think we've been treated fairly.

"We've had lots of support and good comments from ex-players and managers of the club."

The club had been looking to relocate from Zembard Lane – as part of plans submitted earlier this year – but a reprieve has not been forthcoming.
