A MAN who allegedly assaulted his partner during an incident at Crewkerne claimed he had been the victim himself after she struck him first.

Thomas Greenslade, 24, of Pottery Close, Honiton, appeared before Somerset Magistrates at Yeovil charged with an allegation of domestic violence.

He pleaded not guilty to assaulting the complainant by beating her at Crewkerne on March 23.

Ben Winzer, prosecuting, said that the couple’s relationship was said to have deteriorated culminating in the defendant assaulting his partner.

However the court was told that Greenslade denied the offence saying the complainant had punched him first after a pre trial review was conducted

A review of the case was conducted and the allegation was adjourned until July 5 when he must return to the court to stand trial.

They adjourned the case until that date and in the meantime bailed him with conditions not to contact the complainant directly or indirectly and not to enter Crewkerne.
