DEDICATED knitters are being urged to get their needles going for a charity appeal.

From frogs, foxes and fruit to Frosty the Snowman, Age UK Somerset has so far received more than 10,000 little knitted hats as part of the Big Knit fundraising campaign.

But the charity is seeking more knitters of all abilities to help them reach their target of 16,000 by the end of July.

The Big Knit is now in its 16th year and for each hat the charity can provide to go on smoothie bottles in October, innocent drinks donates 25p.

This money is then used towards projects which aim to make life better for older people across Somerset.

All hats should be sent in to the charity’s office in Taunton by the deadline of July 31 but a number of ‘little hat drop off points’ have been set up in Bridgwater, Minehead, Frome, Glastonbury, Weston super Mare, Taunton, Clevedon and other places, to make it easier for anyone taking part to get their hats to the office in Taunton.

The charity has even made a short fun animation to encourage more knitters to join in with the project.

The 6 minute film, Play of Knits, happens to coincide with the new season of a certain popular television show, and is a celebration of all things Somerset, some of the charity’s services and stars some of the wonderful hats that have been received by the office, as well as a few especially made character hats.
