A BUSINESS park looks set to be turned into a development of extra care accommodation for elderly people.

McCarthy and Stone wants to build the 62 units on Trinity Business Park, in South Street, Taunton.

Councillors at Taunton Deane Borough Council's planning meeting tomorrow (Wednesday) are being recommended to conditionally approve the project.

The scheme involves knocking down the existing buildings and replacing them with a two- and three-storey building.

There would also be landscaping and 41 parking spaces.

Several letters of concern expressed objections on grounds such as suitability of the site, loss of privacy and pavements that are too narrow for mobility scooters.

Somerset County Gazette:

An officer's report to the meeting says: "The proposal provides a suitable alternative use for a brownfield site in a sustainable location.

"The benefits of the new use outweigh the loss of employment land here.

"There is not considered to be any adverse harm to amenity.

"Adequate parking is provided together with an improved access and subject to appropriate conditions the development is considered acceptable."
