Chard Regeneration's latest designs set to be unveiled - Have your say

The plans are part of the Chard Regeneration Scheme which is currently in the works from South Somerset District Council to revitalise the town centre.

A prospective swimming pool has been coveted by Chard residents ever since the closure of the 1610 pool facility in Zembard Lane last year.

The site is also set to feature a blend of housing and commercial developments.

The first stage of consultation for Chard Regen was launched in June 2018 and ran until September.

More than 500 people were on hand last summer to get a first look at what SSDC had planned for the Boden Mill site, and the latest updated concepts are set to go on show this weekend.

A public consultation will be held on Saturday, March 16, from 10am until 1pm at The Guildhall in Fore Street, Chard.

Cllr Jo Roundell Greene, portfolio holder for the Chard Regeneration Scheme and deputy leader of SSDC, said: “This is a really exciting development in the Chard Regeneration Scheme because it’s the first time the public will get to see what is planned for the Boden Mill site.

“We have listened to the feedback obtained at previous consultation events, where they told us they wanted to see a new leisure centre, and have implemented plans to deliver this.

“We really hope to see as many people as possible at the event.”

Alliance Leisure has been appointed as development specialist and is working with architecture and building consultancy practice AHR, whose Bristol team has brought the project forward from concept to design.

As well as plans for a leisure centre and swimming pool in the former ACI factory site, Boden Mill itself is set for a public sector hub, with potential for a library and museum on the ground floor.

The latest designs also include public space and possible additional options such as a health facility, business units, a covered market and a play area.
