CHARD is looking for new people to follow in the footsteps of war heroes, brave crash first aiders and community ‘driving forces’.

The town council is asking for residents to nominate people in their community for the latest annual Outstanding Service Awards.

The 2019 recipients of the award will follow on from last year’s winners, Mick Clark, Anna Smith, Collette Boyle, and Caroline Dawn.

Mick Clark and Anna Smith both received awards after being among the first on the scene for the carnival crash in October 2017.

Colette Boyle was given the award for her work for the Chard Helmstedt Twinning Society, and Carolin Dawn was honoured for her work as chairman of the Chard and Ilminster Friends Group of Children’s Hospice South West.

A spokesman for the council said: “We want to hear about Chard residents who have unselfishly contributed to their community.

“The Outstanding Service Awards are all about recognising people within the town for the good work they have done helping others – it could be one single act, or it could be over a number of years.

“Chard Town Council wants to know more about the unsung heroes that have demonstrated outstanding voluntary service and commitment to others.”

If you know of someone who deserves recognition for services to the community please send your nomination in writing to The Community Liaison Officer at the Chard Town Council Offices in the Guildhall, giving the person’s details and a short paragraph as to why you feel they deserve this nomination.

All nominations must be received no later than end of day on April 8, 2019.
