A 77-YEAR-OLD daredevil is going to strap herself to the top of an aeroplane after being inspired by TV’s infamous annoying opera singer.

Marian Mizen, of Holway Park in Ilminster, is planning to take on a wing walk for charity after she saw it being done on a GoCompare advert.

She told her husband of 17 years, Paul, that she thought it might be fun to take on the challenge, so he called up a wing walk company and booked her in.

Marian said: “I was watching the advert where they are on top of the aeroplane going through London.

“I know they are superimposed, but I said I wouldn’t mind actually doing that.”

Paul said: “She is mad. She wanted to do it for a while.

“She saw it on the GoCompare advert and said ‘I might want to do that just for fun’.

“That is how it started, and then I found a company that does them, called the Wing Walk Company.”

The firm normally just takes people up to the age of 75, and Marian had to get special permission from her doctor before being allowed to take part.

She added: “The doctor said I don’t take any medication or have any problems, so why not.

“My daughter thinks I am mad. My granddaughter said straight away she wants to watch.

“My daughter is coming as well, but she will have her eyes closed.”

Marian will be raising money for RSPCA West Hatch where she volunteered for three years.

Staff there are ‘thrilled to bits’ that she is taking on the hair-raising challenge for them.

“We have got donation forms in Tesco, at the doctors and in the RNLI. We are going to see Bradfords and hope they take it,” said Marian.

“I used to love volunteering and I would like taking all the dogs out.

“I worked in with the cats, and cleaned out the ferrets. You really had to make sure you had your trousers tucked in your boots.”

After talking to her neighbours, Marian’s total has already reached £115.

She said she would love to get that up to £300 to £400.

“I am not nervous. I am looking forward to it,” Marian added.

“The only challenge will be I have to climb up a ladder to strap myself in.”
