TAUNTON Town head of football Rob Dray wants his side to be “relentless and ruthless” as they head into the final 13 Evo-Stik Southern League games of the season.

The Peacocks hold a four-point lead at the top after winning 1-0 at Walton Casuals on Saturday, while title rivals Metropolitan Police and Weymouth drew (and Salisbury had their game postponed), and Weymouth then lost 2-1 at Merthyr on Tuesday.

Dray said: “We’ve won six, drawn three and lost three of our last 12 games; that’s not a bad return, and if we can replicate that in our next 12 we won’t be far away from winning it.

“There are going to be a lot of twists and turns over the next 12 weeks.”

Dray has a full squad available for tomorrow’s 147-mile trip to Beaconsfield Town (ko 3pm), with Ben Adelsbury and Keith Emmerson back from suspension.

Beaconsfield, nicknamed ‘the Rams’, won the Southern League Division 1 East title last season.

Taunton played them just over a month ago, winning 2-1 at the Viridor Stadium thanks to two first-half goals from Andrew Neal.

The Rams are 11th in the table, eight points off a play-off spot and eight points clear of the relegation places.

They’ve only won once since the turn of the year, but that was a 4-1 victory over promotion contenders Harrow Borough, and their last match was a 0-0 draw at home to Hendon.

Dray added: “It’s another game away from home, but the circumstances are so different to last Saturday, in terms of the surface and the way they play.

“Beaconsfield play their home pitch well, so we have to deal with that.

“We’re in a good place mentally, but we have to keep going, be relentless and ruthless, and keep ticking the games off.”

IN the Toolstation Western League, Wellington travel to the Premier Division's bottom side Shortwood United (ko 3pm).

The Tangerines enjoyed a 3-1 win at Roman Glass St George last Saturday, but on Wednesday night they were beaten 3-0 at home by promotion contenders Plymouth Parkway.

Boss Clive Jones said: “[The Shortwood game] is a bit of a dreaded one, as they’re improving all the time, and our challenge is not to be the first team that loses to them.”

Bishops Lydeard, meanwhile, are at home to Longwell Green Sports tomorrow (ko 3pm).

Lydeard are 14th in the First Division table, with their visitors in ninth.
