IT was a busy night for firefighters in Taunton who responded to two incidents across the town.

The first report was for a commercial fire in a shop in East Reach. The emergency services rushed to the scene at around 8.50pm last night (February 14).

A spokesman said: "Three fire engines from Taunton along with the aerial ladder platform from Bridgwater were mobilised to this incident.

"Upon arrival crews confirmed a fire underneath the counter within the shop, crews set to work to extinguish the fire using two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet and one safety jet.

"As a result there was slight smoke logging to the ground floor of the shop, the cause was accidental."

The second was early the following morning, but luckily, the two adults, two children, and two dogs present at the home in Trull, were all out of the building.

Three engines and a special unit from Bridgwater were once again called, but this time to Wild Oak Lane at around 2.30am this morning.

The fire is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesman added: "Three fire engines and an aerial ladder platform from Taunton and Bridgwater were sent to reports of alarms activating and smoke coming from the kitchen area in a property.

"On entering the building the fire crews used four breathing apparatus, one hose reel two thermal image cameras and positive pressure ventilation fan to deal with the fire and clear the smoke. The occupants, 2 adults, 2 children and 2 dogs had safely left the building and no one had been injured.

"The kitchen on the ground floor had a small amount of fire damage but sustained smoke damage to the room.

"The fire is not being treated as suspicious."
