THROUGHOUT history, there have been people who have tried to manipulate and cause division in countries.
In the 1930s, Hitler stirred up hatred towards the Jewish people and many ordinary German people were swayed by his views.
In the 1960s, Enoch Powell gave his famous “Rivers of Blood” speech and stirred up hatred towards Afro-Caribbeans and Kenyan Asians, which resulted in many ordinary working-class Labour voters agreeing with his bigoted views.
More recently we have Nigel Farage stirring up hatred towards Europe and the Europeans and again, many working-class - normally Labour voters - following him, in addition to many right-wing Tories!
We are a very divided country and I cannot see how we can come together if the far right gains the ascendancy.
Very sad, very chilling!
