A 32-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder of a police officer.
The arrest is in relation to an incident in Castle Cary in which shots were fired during a three hour stand-off at a proeprty in the Park Street area.
Daniel Hannam, aged 32, of no fixed address, is due to appear at Taunton Magistrates Court tomorrow (Saturday 26 January).
He has been charged with:
• Attempt murder of a police officer
• Possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence
• Two counts of carrying a firearm in a public place
• Possession of a shotgun without a certificate
• Possession of a firearm whilst convicted
• Possession of a firearm with intent to cause violence
• Section 2 Firearms Act – possession of a shotgun
• Armed robbery
• Possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence
• Use of a firearm to prevent arrest
Following the incident on Wednesday morning Avon and Somerset Police referred the incident to the IOPC (Independent Office for Police Conduct).
A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "The IOPC have today confirmed that they will have no involvement in the case and that the matter remains with the force to investigate."
