PAWLETT'S new public access defibrillator has officially 'gone live' this week after being added to the South West Ambulance Service's accreditation scheme.

The defibrillator is sited on the front wall of the Royal British Legion Club facing the road so that it can be easily seen and accessed in the case of an emergency.

The defibrillator was purchased by the Pawlett Legion Club Committee via the British Heart Foundations grant scheme.

The lit, weather-proof and heated cabinet was funded by the Pawlett Legion’s Branch Committee.

Other clubs and organisations within the village are supporting by funding and donating replacement batteries and electrode pads.

Lee Simmonds, project co-ordinator, said: "There has been widespread support for this initiative within the village community.

"The device has already been out to two separate incidents, although luckily it has not needed to be used."

Basic life support training will take place at the Royal British Legion Club using the training kit provided by the British Heart Foundation.
