THE community came together on Sunday to take part in the first walking nativity.

Around 300 people turned up to the event in Chard, organised by Churches Together, which took place in the town centre.

Cheryl Swift, from Churches Together, said: “The event was very good, successful.

“It was great to see the amount of people turn up in the rain.

“This was our first year, so we are already looking forward to the next one.

“The community, churches together and the mayor all came together to make this happen.

“It was nice to see everyone get into the festive spirit.”

The actors went to different parts of the town during the performance, taking the audience with them. Donkeys from Weymouth Beach also came to take part in the show.

The event was free to attend but donations of presents to the baby Jesus will be given to Lords Larder food bank.
