A SOMERSET business will create nearly 40 new jobs after being given permission to expand its current premises.

Resolution Interiors Ltd has provided acclaimed interior design for the likes of Virgin Holidays, New Look, Budgens and Nike from its base on George Smith Way within the Lufton Business Park in Yeovil.

The company – which currently employs 60 people – applied to South Somerset District Council to extend its existing unit and build a new one directly to the north.

The council’s area south committee approved the plans on Wednesday afternoon (December 5) – meaning that a further 38 full-time jobs will be created, according to documents uploaded on the council’s website.

Shaun Travers from Boon Brown Architects spoke on the company’s behalf – and criticised the amount of time it had taken the council to make a decision on the plans, which were first submitted in late-May.

He said: “The proposal will provide for the expansion of a successful Yeovil firm, and will allow other businesses to grow.

“My client wants to start putting a hole in the ground on Monday. He wants to start putting jobs in there in the next few weeks and months.

“Please let us get on and build something, and put new jobs in the town.”

Councillor Peter Seib – whose Brympton ward includes the site – said: “I strongly support this.

“I’m very sad that we have taken a while to get to this point; let’s get on with it. This is a good thing, and we need to do it.”

The committee voted unanimously to approve the plans.
