A DEDICATED pensioner who has volunteered at Ilminster Arts Centre for a quarter of a century has been recognised at a special ceremony.

Helen Walker, , has volunteered at the arts centre since its foundation in 1993 and served as a trustee, running workshops and events for thousands of people.

But on Friday (November 23) Mrs Walker stood down from her duties after 25 years of service and her efforts were recognised at a special event at the arts centre. Staff presented Mrs Walker with a bouquet of flowers from Ilminster florist, Cottage Flowers, and a voucher which gives her 'Freedom of the Arts Centre' which includes free concerts and complimentary drinks in the cafe and bar.

Speaking after the event, Christine Walker, treasurer at Ilminster Arts Centre, said Mrs Walker will be sorely missed and thanked her for her service.

"Helen is a wonderful ambassador for volunteering in the community and her commitment to the Arts Centre is an inspiration," Mrs Walker said.

"Helen is an amazing woman and we are so grateful for all that she has done for the arts centre over the past quarter of a century.

"She is a much-loved member of the arts centre family and we look forward to seeing her at the arts centre, enjoying it as our visitors do, as a welcoming and creative community space for everyone."

The arts centre on East Street sees more than 30,000 visitors pass through its doors each year and hosts exhibitions, concerts, workshops and events all year round.
