TWO sisters have started a business venture together after going out only intending to buy a newspaper.

After careers as carers for more than 20 years, Tracey Muckersie and Lynda Brion have changed directions to open the cafe they have always wanted.

Cafe Square was officially opened at its Silver Street location on Thursday, November 22. The mayor of Ilminster, Julie Fowler, visited to cut the ribbon.

OPEN: Cafe Square, 7 Silver Street

The pair have both lived in Ilminster for the last 30 years, but have always talked about running a cafe of their own one day.

Mrs Muckersie said: “Me and Lynda have been carers for the past 24 years;.

“One morning, I sent Lynda out for a newspaper for one of the clients we cared for, and she came back and said ‘do you fancy doing something different?’

“She said ‘you know how we’ve always talked about a cafe - well I’ve found one’.

“We both rang the number and looked at it that day.

“We signed the tenancy agreement and here we are - Cafe Square is open for business.”

The pair say the support they have been ‘lucky enough’ to received so far has been fantastic.

Mrs Muckersie added: “We would like to thank our husband’s Kevin Muckersie and Paul Brion for all the hard work they have put in for making the cafe what it is today, they’ve worked so hard.

“Also a big thank you to all our family’s and friends for their hard work and the support they’ve given us.”

The pair have opened just in time to enjoy the festive period with their customers.

“Thank you to all our customers who have visited us so far,” Mrs Muckersie added. “Cafe square would like to wish our customers a very merry Christmas.
