AROUND £10,000 raised from a night orienteering walk will be shared between Somerset Sight, Taunton Opportunity Group and Rotary charities.

A total of 250 walkers took part in the Moonraker event at Taunton Racecourse last month and many of them attended a recent prizegiving evening.

The long route winners were Inadequate 7, with Wethoughtitwasadisco the runners-up and FC in third place.

Blister Sisters were first in the short route, with Friends of Kings Hall second followed by Director Skittles.

Keith Bigwood, president of the organisers, Taunton Vale Rotary, thanked organisations and landowners supporting the hike.

He added: "Without the tremendous work put in by the organising team, led by Stewart Berry and Bill Tregillus, and the efforts of Rotary Club members and Inner Wheel, RayNet and First Care Ambulance, the event would not have been so successful.

The team raising the most sponsorship of £745 was MHA Monahans Taunton, who won £250 of Taunton Leisure vouchers, with the second highest, Halcon Unlinked, with £675, receiving vouchers from Berrys Coaches.
