A FURNACE was severely damaged in a fire in Crewkerne this morning (Friday).
Firefighters were called to the incident in Blacknell Lane at 6.26am, with three engines and an operational assurance officer sent to the scene.
A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "On arrival crews confirmed a fire within the furnace that had caused the building to become smoke logged.
"Crews got to work investigating using two breathing apparatus wearers, one safety jet and one covering jet.
"The fire caused severe damage to the furnace but no further damage to the building.
"The fire was extinguished using CO2 extinguishers, four breathing apparatus wearers, one safety jet and one covering jet.
"Duty of care was left with on site engineers."
