I WAS amazed to read the article 'St James Street car ban could 'kill our town'' (County Gazette, October 18).
Other towns who have pedestrianised streets rejoice in the number of extra customers.
The fact that people can wonder all over the road at will, brings them.
Children do not have to be watched over at all times and even more importantly, the partially-sighted and the blind do not have to worry about traffic and so feel more independent.

I love St James Street and the shops there. I just wish I could wonder from side to side without worrying about traffic.
No, the St James Street car ban could bring far more pedestrian shoppers, including the disabled.
Cars use the street as a rat run and it is dangerous as it is, with traffic pouring through it.
When people are shopping, they need peace and the freedom to cross from side to side at will, especially when Christmas shopping etc.
