A FLEET of roaring Harley Davidson bikes gathered in Chard town centre to bid farewell to a local fan.

Beryl Joy Edmunds (nee Richins), who had been known as Beryl The Peril during her younger days, passed away last month aged 87 .

A procession of Harley Davidson’s was organised to accompany her on her final journey to Tatworth Cemetery, which was carried out in a hearse sidecar.

After the local chapter of Harley Owners’ Group were already booked, the escort came together following appeals online and through social media, and eight riders were found.

The group gathered at Friendships Funerals in High Street, Chard, before travelling along the A358 to the graveside service.

Robert Hurst, Beryl’s son, said: “In later years she attended events like HITC Brechin where Davidson was born, however her health prevented a ride.

“Now she has got her ride, and her last wish was for a couple of bikes as escort and as a sort of Guard of Honour to her youthful days of mischief.

“Her teenage love of Harley’s has stayed with her and this little event should prove a blessed send-off.”
